The Knockouts on The Voice can be hard on everyone. Fans, contestants, coaches.
Some difficult choices had to be made Monday night when Team John’s Will Breman and Zoe Upkins went toe-to-toe for a chance to stay in the game.
Upkins, the 16-year-old high school student, went with Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You.” It was a risky move for the Nashville native, but she nailed it with power, tone and range. Legend loved what he heard and he could be seen swaying and singing along.
For his own performance, Santa Barbara-based singer-songwriter Breman went with a familiar pop hit, “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, with a tweaked, Latin-style arrangement.
“He’s really got his own thing,” mega mentor Taylor Swift said about him.
Tough choices had to be made and, ultimately, Legend gave the thumbs up to Breman. Upkins went home. Few saw it coming. No one said these Knockouts would be easy.
The Knockouts conclude Tuesday on NBC.
