Tones And I on Track For Fifth Week at No. 1 With ‘Dance Monkey’

Stereophonics will be hard to catch in the race for the U.K. albums chart title.

The Welsh trio’s eleventh studio set Kind (Parlophone) sits at No. 1 on the Official Chart Update, with a lead of 14,000 chart sales over Rick Astley’s Best of Me (BMG) collection, the No. 2-ranked title at the midweek stage.

According to the Official Charts Company, Kind has the advantage on sales (physical and digital downloads) and, should it hold its position when the weekly chart is published this Friday, it’ll become the band’s seventh U.K. No. 1.

Coming in at No. 3 is “You’re Beautiful” singer James Blunt’s Once Upon A Mind (Atlantic), ahead of Kanye West’s new gospel LP Jesus Is King (Def Jam), at No. 4. Completing an all-new top five is of Hampshire indie pop singer Rex Orange County’s major label debut, Pony (Sony Music).

New releases from Bruce Springsteen (Western Stars: Songs From The Film via Columbia at No. 9) and Editors (Black Gold at No. 10 via PIAS) impact the top 10, while veteran Northern Irish crooner Van Morrison is close behind at No. 11 with Three Chords and the Truth (Exile).

On the midweek singles chart, Tones And I’s “Dance Monkey” (Bad Batch) takes pole position. The hit from Down Under has ruled the Official U.K. Singles Chart for four successive weeks, and it’s on track for a fifth, with DJ Regard’s cover of “Ride It” (Ministry of Sound) holding at No. 2 and Selena Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me” (Interscope), one of two tracks she dropped in 24 hours, drops in at No. 3.
