The U.S. Postal Service, one of the largest employers in the country, is calling for a temporary delay in the Biden government’s order to vaccinate workers of large companies against COVID-19 or subject them to weekly tests.

The USPS has written a written request from the OSHA enforcement agency for a “temporary release” from compliance while the matter is being heard in court. The Supreme Court hears arguments that challenge vaccine mandates on Friday.

Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino mentions supply chain problems in his letter:

Given the significant challenges our country’s supply chains are already facing, we respectfully point out that the country cannot afford the additional potential significant damage that would arise if the postal service’s ability to deliver mail and parcels were significant would be affected.

The USPS is targeting a 120-day delay in fulfilling the mandate.

Tulio says the agency is now in the middle of its peak season, which runs from October to January, and that with more than half a million employees, “making even modest changes to policies and procedures that impact on it can be very difficult and time-consuming.” the working conditions of its employees. This is especially true when it comes to the collection and use of medical information. “

However, the White House has no sympathy for the Post’s request. In her briefing on Thursday, press secretary Jen Psaki said OSHA had previously determined that “compliance with the rule is feasible for all employers, including the postal service.”
