It’s another record-breaker for Taylor Swift.
The pop superstar charted a new peak in modern-era vinyl sales — as more music fans turned to vintage records during the pandemic.
The vinyl edition of Swift’s album “Evermore” shattered the US record for largest vinyl album sales in a single week, according to Billboard.
It sold more than 40,000 copies just three days after its May 28 release — already surpassing the biggest single-week sales record since MRC Data began tracking in 1991.
The title had previously been held by Jack White’s “Lazaretto,” which sold 40,000 copies in the week after it launched in June 2014.
It’s likely sales of “Evermore,” Swift’s ninth studio album, will continue to soar through the end of the tracking week on Thursday.
The 31-year-old singer’s chartbusting comes amid a broader vinyl comeback.
Sales of vinyl LPs and 45s grew 23 percent in 2020, from the year prior, according to data released by the Recording Industry Association of America in February.
It also marked the single-largest year for US vinyl album sales in MRC Data history, with 27.54 million copies sold, Billboard reported.
Once the dominant format for music listening, vinyl albums began losing appeal in the late 1980s, with cassettes reigning up until the ’90s, before CDs took over.
The return of vinyl coincided with the rise in music streaming since the early 2010s, according to Forbes. Fans seemed to want to actually own physical albums, instead of just downloading or streaming music.
The pace of vinyl sales growth began to take a nosedive again in 2016, before picking back up last year, the report said.
Fans also appear to be turning to newer releases, instead of sticking to old-school favorites like Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
For her part, Swift teased sales of her vinyl record on Instagram the day it dropped, by quoting lyrics from her song “Ivy.”
“Clover blooms in the fields/spring breaks loose/the time is near,” she wrote along a photo of herself lounging on grass with the vinyl record. “EVERMORE ALBUM VINYL IS OUT TODAY!! You can get it at your fav indie record store, Target, Walmart & Amazon ✨ and if you’re feeling even more generous, go ahead and stream it too! That would be cool!”
