‘Rust’ Crew Member Alleges Alec Baldwin Was Reckless, Safety Rules Ignored

A “Rust” movie crew member who frantically called 911 after a fatal shooting on the film’s New Mexico set last month said producers ignored safety protocols and that star Alec Baldwin acted recklessly before discharging a live round that killed the film’s cinematographer and wounded the director.

“Rust” script supervisor Mamie Mitchell alleged that Mr. Baldwin should never have discharged the gun, that the scene about to be filmed didn’t call for him to do so and that he failed to check the gun for safety. In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court Wednesday, Ms. Mitchell also alleged that the set was unsafe because guns were left unattended and live ammunition was found in violation of industry guidelines.
