Rudy Giuliani’s Law License Suspended in New York

A New York court has suspended the law of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was also a personal lawyer for former President Donald Trump.

The court alleges that Giuliani has made “demonstrably false and misleading” statements to courts, lawmakers and the public about the 2020 election in his capacity as Trump’s attorney.

In their decision to suspend Giuliani’s license, the court wrote: “These false statements were made to improperly disprove the respondent’s story that his client’s victory in the 2020 US presidential election was stolen from his client as a result of widespread voter fraud. strengthen.”

The court ruled that Giuliani had made false claims about the number of absentee ballots counted in Pennsylvania after Joe Biden won the state’s electoral votes.

The court also stated, “We conclude that the defendant’s conduct immediately threatens the public interest and warrants a provisional suspension of the legal practice pending further proceedings before the Attorney’s Complaints Committee.”

What Rudy’s side says

Attorneys for Giuliani, John Leventhal and Barry Kamins, said they were “disappointed” with the court’s decision: “Our client poses no current threat to the public interest. We believe that once the issues have been fully investigated in a hearing, Mr Giuliani will be reinstated as a valued member of the legal profession he has served so well in his many capacities over so many years.”

Giuliani has denied all allegations. In a statement to the New York Post, Giuliani compared the action to the Soviet Union, stating, “It’s a complete violation of my First Amendment rights and my rights as a lawyer. I’m allowed to have a client.”

He continued: “President Trump is not allowed to have a lawyer, of course it is a partisan hit. I haven’t done anything wrong. I didn’t say anything that a witness didn’t tell me. We become like East Germany.”

Legal problems for Rudy

Rudy Giuliani faces several legal proceedings.

He is the defendant in a $1.3 million lawsuit in which Dominion voting systems have accused him of defamation.

Giuliani claimed after the 2020 presidential election that Dominion voting machines were programmed to convert Trump votes into Biden votes. Another voting machine company, Smartmatic, has also filed suit against Giuliani.

He is due to appear in court on Thursday in connection with the Dominion case.

On April 28, federal agents raided Giuliani’s home and office as part of a separate investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan into Giuliani’s activities in Ukraine.

The FBI alleges that Giuliani violated lobbying laws by acting as an unregistered foreign agent while working in his capacity as a lawyer for Donald Trump.

Giuliani can now request a post-suspension hearing. He has 20 days to do so.

President Trump also weighed in, calling Giuliani the greatest mayor in New York City history.
