NYC braces for mass exodus as police and firefighters say no to Vax mandate

Monday could go down as one of the most embarrassing days in New York City history if warnings about a massive departure of New York City police officers due to Mayor Bill DeBlasio’s vaccine mandate come true.

Members of New York’s Finest have until Monday to get vaccinated or take unpaid leave.

According to the New York Post, the department has already sent guidelines to officers willing to leave their service rather than obey the mandate.

NYPD Rank And File Not Happy

Currently, a quarter of the NYPD is unvaccinated. Even more have applied for exemptions and should continue to work and be paid while the exemptions are pending. Those officers should be tested weekly and adhere to stricter mask policies.

It is not yet known how many officers want to hang him.

The president of the Detective Endowment’s Association, Paul DiGiacomo, estimates that more than 9,000 to 10,000 detectives and officers are eligible for some form of retirement.

DiGiacomo also hinted at another reason for what he described as a “rush” to vaccinate. “The only reason the mayor is rushing this is for his own political gain. He plans to run for governor and he has nothing to hang his hat with right now, except to say he has the most vaccinations in the country by forcing people to do it.”

FDNY is participating

It’s not just cops either. The mandate applies to firefighters.

Members of the NYPD along with members of the FDNY protested in front of the Gracie Mansion, home of Mayor de Blasio.

Andrew Ansbro, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, says the union will file a lawsuit against the vaccine mandate.

Ansbro added: “This is a personal choice that everyone wants to make for themselves.” He predicts that up to 45% of firefighters in New York City could be fired because of the mandate.

Such a large number would be unfathomable.

Ansbro blames DeBlasio for a severe shortage of first responders. “We have been here every day of the pandemic and we will still be here on November 1. It will be the mayor who separates you from the citizens of New York City and what happens to them will be on him, not on us.”

First Responders Face the Vax Ax across the Nation

Unfortunately, the men and women of the NYPD are far from alone. Vaccination mandates are popping up in cities across the country. Many of those cities are, unsurprisingly, cities that have been controlled by Democrats for decades.

Places like Spokane, Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles are forcing police officers to choose between their careers and complying with what some believe to be illegitimate vaccine mandates.

In Seattle, more than 300 officers have left the police force in 10 months. In Massachusetts, state police estimate they will lose 150 officers.

A judge on Thursday denied a restraining order to prevent the mandate that the largest union representing police officers in New York City had requested.
