Kim Kardashian Says Kanye West Will Always Be Family

“I just want my kids to be happy and healthy and think the world of their dad.”

In the wake of her split from Kanye West — and the combative, at times disturbing public drama that came with it — Kim Kardashian is sharing some insight into the former couple’s current relationship dynamic and explaining why they’ll “always be family.”

Just so we’re caught up: Kim and Kanye were married for more than half a decade before The Kardashians star filed for divorce in early 2021. They share four children together, Psalm, Chicago, Saint, and North West, whose ages range from two to eight years old.

Ye’s behavior surrounding the divorce made headlines countless times in recent months, as he oscillated between apparent attempts to win Kim back and criticisms of her that included jabs at her parenting style and then-newfound romance with Pete Davidson.

But, after calling out Ye for what she described as his “constant attacks on her” and “obsession with trying to control and manipulate” the story of their separation, Kim said they still “talk daily” and are mainly focused on co-parenting.

“Kanye and I have had conversations. We have to talk daily for the kids,” she explained during an interview with Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts for this week’s ABC News special. “So, you know, I hate that it had to play out like that.”

“But when it comes to family, I mean, Kanye and I will always be family,” Kim continued. “At the end of the day, I just want my kids to be happy and healthy and think the world of their dad. And they do.”

Kim also spoke about supporting her children during the divorce. “I’m really open and honest with them,” she shared. “You know, the younger ones don’t understand as much. But as far as with my two older ones, they know what’s going on.”

Reflecting on her past conflicts with Ye, it sounds like the SKIMS founder is set on moving forward. “You want to take the high road, and sometimes it’s hard,” she said.

“But I think that at the end of the day, everyone has their own way of communicating. And I’ve always been, like, a champion of [Ye] speaking his truth and I would always want that.”
