Everything Coldplay Has Been Up to Since 2015’s ‘A Head Full of Dreams’

On Monday (Oct. 21), Coldplay surprised fans by announcing that they will be releasing a two-part LP titled Sunrise and Sunset on Nov. 22.

The album will mark the band’s first full-length effort since 2015’s A Head Full of Dreams, which frontman Chris Martin hinted at the time would be the group’s last one, noting that it is “a bit like a finale, or a final scene.”

Since then, the band dropped an EP, played the Super Bowl and Martin hopped on a smash collaboration with The Chainsmokers. In celebration of the upcoming new music, Billboard has compiled a list of everything Coldplay has been up to since 2015. Check it out below.

February 2016 – Super Bowl 50 halftime show
The group teamed up with Beyonce and Bruno Mars for a high-energy set at San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium, complete with a gorgeous, colorful display from the audience that read, “Believe in Love.” The trio ended the set with an “Uptown Funk” finale.

March 2016 – A Head Full of Dreams tour kicks off
The eight-leg stint marked Coldplay’s return to stadiums and areas, after their intimate Ghost Stories tour. Stretching all the way through Nov. 2017, the band visited venues across five continents. The 114-show tour became the third-highest grossing global tour of all time, taking in a total of $523,033,675 in ticket sales.

February 2017 – “Something Just Like This”
Though Martin has revealed no plans for a solo album, he linked up with the Chainsmokers to unveil a dreamy dance banger, “Something Just Like This.” The tune peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and dominated the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for 20 cumulative weeks.

July 2017 – Kaleidoscope EP
The five-song project featured a “Tokyo Remix” of the Chainsmokers collab, as well as “Miracles (Someone Special),” featuring Big Sean. For “A L I E N S,” all proceeds went to Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), an international non-governmental organization that rescues migrants and refugees at sea in the Mediterranean.

December 2018 – Live in Buenos Aires album, Live in Sao Paulo concert film and A Head Full of Dreams documentary film
The 24-track album was recorded in the Argentinian capital on Nov. 15, 2017, on the final night of the Head Full of Dreams tour, marking the first time a Coldplay show had been released in full. The Live in Sao Paulo film was filmed a week earlier on Nov. 8, 2018.

The feature-length film highlights the band’s 20-year career, blending their path to prolonged stardom with clips from the larger-than-life Head Full of Dreams Tour.
