Something’s brewing in Kevin Parker’s house.
The Tame Impala maestro and in-demand producer has had a relatively low-key year, during which time he’s appeared on SNL and a bunch of festival bills, and released a handful of tracks.
A mysterious new teaser now appears on the official Tame Impala website, which is fueling hope that the Aussie psychedelic rock protagonists are prepping a fourth album.
In the looped clip, we see Parker in the studio playing with an old-school oscilloscope and real-to-reel audio tapes. There’s a pay off at the finish, where we see the muso looking out into the ocean.
Tame Impala are probably due a new LP. Their last album was 2015’s Currents, which earned Parker and Co. a Brit Award for best international group and set them on the path to festival-headliner status around the globe.
The Perth band’s breakthrough debut Innerspeaker came out in 2010, and their sophomore effort Lonerism arrived in 2012.
We know it’s coming, we just don’t know when. Parker has been working on their fourth studio set for well over a year. “I can’t say too much. But it’s my main focus right now,” he told Billboard in an interview published in August 2018. “All I can say is it’s gone back to being my main focus.”
In March of this year, Tame Impala released “Patience,” their first new music since Currents. The track “Borderline” followed the next month.
