The playlist features over 30 of HoneyLuv’s all-time favorite tracks from Black electronic music artists, like Todd Terry, Robert Hood and Inner City.
In celebration of Black History Month, HoneyLuv has curated an exclusive playlist for EDM.com readers.
The surging DJ and house producer curated over 30 of her all-time favorite tracks from Black electronic music artists. Dennis Ferrer, Todd Terry, Robert Hood, Floorplan, DJ Minx, Jaden Thompson, Nasser Baker, Inner City and Rae Cola are just a few of the influential artists featured.
HoneyLuv’s playlist serves as a snapshot of the Black and queer roots of electronic music, dating back to the genre’s deeply influential disco and house of the ’70s and ’80s. When asked what parallels she draws between those timeless records and her own music, HoneyLuv points to its soulful traits.
“The house music from the ’80s and ’90s are a huge inspiration to the music I make, especially now that I am finally finding a sound that is my own,” HoneyLuv tells EDM.com. “House music back then had soul and funk and the music I make will always have that soulful feeling and a funky groove. Only a few artists these days make house music with that soulful feeling and it’s super important to me to continue that into the new generation of house music.”
“As for sound wise, I love finding sounds that were popular in that era whether it’s cowbells, some 808s or 909s and combining it with that HoneyLuv modern sound.”
