Carrie Underwood’s ‘Cry Pretty Tour 360’ Wraps on Halloween

“I think it’s fitting ending a tour on Halloween. I don’t know why; It just feels right,” Carrie Underwood told the crowd at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night — indeed the final night of her Cry Pretty Tour 360.

But Underwood’s support acts were happy to show the American Idol champ why.

Maddie & Tae and Runaway June used the occasion to pull some good-natured and Halloween-themed closing night pranks on Underwood. During the nightly medley of songs by female country music icons, Maddie & Tae came first wearing horror masks, while three male members of the duo’s band joined in, dressed in drag. The three members of Runaway June followed in costumes of their own, including a witch’s outfit and a hippie ensemble. “I feel like I had a dream like this in some part of my life,” said Underwood, who went with the gags and did not let it interrupt the flow of the 10-song medley.

On her own Underwood took a more sentimental and triumphant tone about the tour coming to a close, telling the Detroit crowd early on that “it has been a wonderful tour,” and saying later that “it’s hard to believe it’s ending, it’s over. It has been a super, duper fun ride. We’re gonna miss all of it.” Underwood also said she was paying close attention to the production elements and cues, “looping all these things in my mind so I never forget them.”

The 64-date trek, supporting Underwood’s 2018 studio album Cry Pretty, kicked off May 1 in Greensboro, N.C. and played two legs of North America, with six summer dates in the U.K. in between. A dollar from every ticket was donated to Danita’s Children, which assists children from Haiti. During July Billboard predicted that Underwood might gross as much as $50 million from the tour, with an average of $898,000 and 11,022 attendance per show.

Underwood will be co-hosting the 53rd Annual Country Music Association Awards with Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton on Nov. 13 in Nashville. It will be her 12th time co-hosting the ceremony, but the first without usual partner Brad Paisley. She herself is nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, while Cry Pretty, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, is nominated for Album of the Year.
