Capricorn Monthly Horoscope

MONTH OF October

You’re on a mission, and you won’t be stopped! October could prove to be one of your most ambitious months in 2019, so don’t ease up on those #bossgoals now, Capricorn. Not only is the Sun in Libra and your professional tenth house until October 23, but energizer Mars is also making its biennial blaze through this zone from October 4 to November 19. When the red planet arrives, everything speeds up, which can drive up stress and excitement in equal measure. Work could be demanding before the holiday season, with long hours and short turnaround times. But on the upside, you’ll make strides that can help you close the decade with a huge feather in your cap!

The tenth house is the zone of leadership and public image, and with Mars here, you can rise to major prominence. Take, for example, 16-year-old Capricorn climate activist Greta Thunberg, the iconic teen who led of the Global Climate Strike that swept the planet last month. Or, in a quieter but no less potent form of activism, the L.A. “bodega” serving healthy food for less than five dollars a meal, created by nonprofit founder LaRayia Gaston. Whether you inspire 4 million people to join your movement or make a difference for the handful of folks you influence doesn’t matter. This month’s bold and pioneering starmap invites you to step up and be The One. As the famous quote goes, “To the world you may be just one person, but to one person, you may be the world.”

This call to greatness gets amplified by transformational powerhouse Pluto, which wakes up from a five-month retrograde in YOUR sign on October 3. As karmic Pluto zooms into forward motion, you’ll emerge from the shadows. If you’ve been hiding out or dimming your lights, Pluto’s course correction turns up the intensity again. A personal project could speed up, especially if you’ve been blocked by a few obstacles or resistant people who seemed to be undermining your efforts. Have you been considering a style revamp or a major life change? The soul-searching you’ve done since April (whether you realized you were doing it or not) could now pay off, inspiring you to make decisive moves.

You’ll still need to play by SOME of the rules, though. In fact, there are a couple days when you want to be sure you’re not pissing off the wrong people—unless, of course, that’s your mission. On October 7, the Libra Sun will lock into a heated square with rigid Saturn, which is also in Capricorn. You may butt up against a few restrictions in your quest, perhaps clashing with an authority figure or encountering bureaucratic slowdowns. You might have your own reservations about how you’re seen by the world, wanting to be seen as serious and “professional” without being stifled!

These dueling desires for social acceptance and autonomy will repeat on October 27, when fiery Mars in Libra also squares off with Saturn in Capricorn. This will be akin to having one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. You could wind up in a major power struggle—perhaps one that could be avoided—if you insist on butting those Sea Goat horns against every brick wall you encounter. Is compromise possible without selling out on your ideals or settling for less than you deserve? On these two days, that’s debatable. When in doubt, ride it out: Why swim upstream if you don’t have to?

Need to pause for a personal cause? Midmonth, take a time-out from your ambitions to touch down at home base or savor a little self-care. On October 13, the annual Aries full moon will beam into your fourth house of home, family and emotional foundations. If you’ve been considering a move or a change in your living situation, these moonbeams can catalyze your plans. For Caps of the parenting set, this maternal moon could bring pregnancy news or an opportunity to bond with your children. A powerful woman could figure prominently into events today or over the next two weeks.

Watch for emotional intensity at this full moon because it will square off with Pluto in Capricorn, which can shorten your fuse and make you prone to knee-jerk reactions. Your Sea Goat serenity may be in short supply, if not entirely AWOL. A family member or close person might push your buttons (and they always know exactly where those are), provoking an unexpectedly potent reaction. Knowing this ahead of time, you can plan to avoid provocative people and topics.

Lightness arrives on October 23, when the Sun shifts gears into Scorpio and your eleventh house of groups, teamwork and technology. Step away from your desk and go mingle. You’ll accomplish more when you focus on “who you know” rather than “what you do.” Of course, demanding Mars will remain in your career sector until mid-November, so there’s still plenty on your plate. But now you can mix it up a bit more!

A collaboration—or the start of a fruitful one—could take flight on October 27, when the year’s only Scorpio new moon beams into your eleventh house, sparking synergies. You might be invited to join a professional association that forwards your goals. Or maybe politics is calling your name? Whatever the case, this new moon is here to expand your circle and bring some dynamic new thinkers into your orbit. It’s a great day to host a party or an event, especially one that benefits a cause that you care about.

Keep the divas and drama queens off the guest list however, Capricorn. The new moon will stand in opposition to disruptive Uranus in your fifth house of passion and self-expression. An attention-hungry person (who may have a large ego to boot) may try to steal the spotlight and derail progress. Drunk or belligerent behavior might even erupt at a party, so dodge any scenes that look like they could blow up into a bad reality-TV moment. If you’re leading a team or addressing a crowd, make sure everyone feels included and acknowledged. Under these stars, you might unwittingly come across as arrogant—SO not the look you’re going for.

This new moon also marks a great day for a digital launch or sending one of your online creations viral. If you do put yourself out there on the interwebs, watch for interference from the Uranus opposition. Tone down the snark and irreverence, and don’t post anything that could be seen as controversial unless you’re 100 percent willing to stand behind it—and take the heat.

This advice remains in effect for the rest of the month (and beyond). On October 31, trickster Mercury—the planet of communication, technology and travel—turns retrograde in Scorpio until November 20. With Mercury serving up a double dose of mayhem around all things social, you’ll need to tread carefully in your interactions, both online and IRL. Been craving a little more offline time? Start your digital detox now. Need space from a friend whose hysterics have become exhausting? Use the retrograde to reconnect with old contacts and let this draining dynamic die down. Since Mercury retrograde can cause electronic data and devices to go up in smoke, be sure to back up all your most important files long before Halloween. The last thing you need is a ghoulish surprise—or to find that the “Day of the Dead” applies to your laptop battery conking out on you just when you have a major project to finish!

With the love planets, Venus and Mars, swaggering through Libra and your tenth house of career and public attention, you’ll be attracted to successful, focused people and eager to surround yourself with folks who motivate you and help you ascend. If you’re single, don’t be afraid to set your sights high. Sparks could fly with a colleague or someone you meet at a professional event. If you’re clear on what you want in a partner and a relationship, don’t settle for less than 90 percent of that. Save yourself precious time (and much frustration) by screening out candidates who aren’t on your level after the first or second date. Thank you, next!

Attached? You’re in “power couple” mode, so dress up and go make moves together. You can inspire others to be THEIR best selves and believe in their ability to create a loving, supportive bond. Make sure there’s a healthy give-and-take, and if there isn’t, discuss how you can rebalance the scales. This is your future-oriented zone, so it makes sense that you’re wondering about next steps, whether officializing your status or perhaps going into business together. Start the conversation, but don’t create unnecessary pressure to figure out everything NOW. Let the story unfold organically!

On October 8, Venus leaves Mars alone to heat up this professional sector when she moves on to Scorpio and your social, lighter-hearted eleventh house. Some of the “commitment stress” may wane, though not entirely with the red planet still there (Mars stays put in Libra until November 19), and you’ll be happy catching up with platonic pals. Single? A love interest could emerge from your pack, so be open-minded about people you never thought about “that way.” Ask friends to introduce you to compatible people in their network, or download a new dating app and upload new photos and a fresh profile. Over the next three weeks, challenge yourself to stay present and welcoming of kindred spirits, even if they come in unfamiliar “soul dressing.”

Key Dates:
October 12: Venus-Uranus opposition

If you’re not sure you’re into someone romantically, do both of you a favor and don’t string them along. This confusing opposition of the love planet in your friendship zone and unpredictable Uranus in your romance sector is by nature destabilizing! But Uranus can help you take a bold and sudden action, and if it’s handled with kindness, it won’t hurt (much).

Make your power moves NOW, Capricorn. With the Sun in Libra and your ambitious, status-boosting tenth house until October 23, the time is ripe for you to go after your goals with gusto. Even better? Cosmic catalyst Mars is blazing through lofty Libra from October 4 to November 19, turning your professional sector into a heat zone. While you may feel more pressure and intensity (Mars adds speed), opportunities will come fast, and you’re more than ready to seize them. Don’t overthink it, Capricorn! Be prepared—and proactive—about going after those A-list contacts and objectives. And be sure to look good while doing it. Give some thought to your brand: Are you known for your dapper collection of Goorin Bros. hats? Maybe you’re ripping a page from French Vogue by proclaiming that vintage is making a comeback. You’ve got luxe-loving Libra on your side, so have fun making a stylish statement without being stuffy.

This month, you’ll get by with help from your friends…and your network. Chatty and innovative Mercury starts an extended visit to Scorpio on October 3, brightening your eleventh house of teamwork and technology. Reach out to your crew through the interwebs AND in-person meetups for leads, testimonials and promising intros. Start showing up at industry events later this month, once the Sun moves into Scorpio on October 23. The Scorpio new moon on October 27 is a brilliant day to debut a refreshed look-and-feel of your online portfolio, or maybe to sign up for digital course or join a professional group. Someone you meet at a gathering could start opening doors in the coming weeks. Pay it forward by playing superconnector yourself!

On October 31, Mercury will turn retrograde until November 20, a cycle that’s notorious for wreaking havoc on technology, travel, information and communication. Back up your most important data and be careful what you post. Misunderstandings within any groups you’re a part of are likely—but luckily, they’re also temporary. Take a breather before you overreact or, worse, burn a bridge. The eleventh house also rules hopes and dreams; if you’re feeling like you’ll never finish that manuscript or land that coveted job, stop believing those fearful thoughts. This, too, shall pass. On a positive note, this Mercury backspin is a perfect time to reconnect with old friends. Scroll through your contact list and reach out to people you haven’t spoken to in a while. They may have good news and promising leads!

Key Dates:
October 7: Mercury-Uranus opposition

However tempting it may be to lash out at someone for something that deserves to be called out, stand down. YOU’LL come off looking like the bad guy, and people may be hesitant to share their ideas with you in the future. Bring it to the attention of a higher-up who’s in the position to take decisive action.
