Two years ago, the yoga and meditation community got an ambient collection of introspective soundscapes from none other than legendary trance purveyors Above & Beyond.
titled Power status:, the ambient album stripped the British trio of their usual trance leads and soaring progressive beats, opting instead to immerse their audience in a state of reflection and zen with a song cycle of ambient and piano-based arrangements.
As the world continues to suffer the effects of a global pandemic, Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki of Above & Beyond strive for a sense of peace and serenity after months of lockdown and isolation with their follow-up, Current state: healing with nature.
The five-track collection offers two hours of composite environmental recordings for use in meditation, providing a deep state of relaxation and tranquility. Surrounded by nature, the cuts offer meditation between the environments of rain, wind, night and winter.
The soundscapes, recorded in the forests of Finland, are accompanied by a half-hour piano piece, voiced by Elena Brower. In the improvised piece, which was shot in one take, Brower explores the process of meditation.
“After months of confinement and isolation, many of us feel overwhelmed as we have begun to return to social life,” Siljamäki said in a statement. “Meditation practice can provide a great opportunity to center ourselves.”
