Rolling Loud New York festival-goers were surprised to see someone invited on stage after being “cancelled” earlier this year.
50 Cent headlined Day 1 of Rolling Loud New York. Among the guests he invited on stage was DaBaby. The North Carolina rapper’s performance was pre-approved by festival officials.
However, it is said that his performance was not featured on the live stream of the event.
In July, during Rolling Loud Miami, DaBaby had been homophobic onstage. Following the rant, DaBaby’s comments were heavily condemned by the LGBT+ community and on social media.
“If you don’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of those deadly sexually transmitted diseases, you’re going to die in two to three weeks, then put on your cell phone lighter,” he said during his Rolling Loud Miami performance. “Ladies, if your pussy smells like water, light your cell phone. Guys, if you don’t suck d**k in the parking lot, light your cell phone.”
DaBaby doubled down on his comments and caused even more backlash. Eventually, DaBaby began to be dropped off at festival lineups and lost brand partnerships, prompting him to formally apologize.
50 Cent has defended DaBaby in the past. Following DaBaby’s intense media scrutiny earlier this year, in an August interview, Fif stated that DaBaby “is only two years into his career. There is no artistic development. There is no strong A&R in it. There is certainly no media training. ” He added that DaBaby would “bounce back” and said people had tried “five or six times” to cancel Chris Brown.
