Time for Ed Sheeran to find some new material.
The 28-year-old “Shape of You” singer is taking yet another hiatus from music and social media so he can “actually have something to write about,” he said in a Christmas Eve Instagram note. The announcement comes after he shared details of his 50-pound weight loss and appeared in the romantic “Put It All On Me,” video with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, 27.
But, Sheeran told fans, it’s all been “a bit nonstop, so I’m just gonna take a breather.”
The Brit announced a similar break over the summer after two years of touring and 260 shows. This vacation from road life comes after the success of his album “Divide” in 2017. The following tour earned more than any other world tour in the past 30 years, Rolling Stone reported, raking in a massive $432 million.
So, the guy can afford some time off. He wrote to his fans he’ll spend some time traveling, writing and reading.
“The ‘Divide’ era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see more of the world,” he wrote. “I’ll be off all social media until it’s time to come back.”
More recently, Sheeran collaborated with just about every hot musician under the sun for his “No. 6 Collaborations Project,” which featured the likes of Cardi B, Bruno Mars, Camila Cabello and Travis Scott.
Addressing his fans, he signed off: “I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.”
Past hiatuses have won him the respect of fellow artists, like Elton John, who signed Sheeran to his management company back in 2011. He told Rolling Stone that Sheeran’s travels “refreshed his soul.”
