My New Song Is About Ex-Fiance Shawn Booth

She’s just being honest! Kaitlyn Bristowe revealed that her debut single, “If I’m Being Honest,” was inspired by her breakup from ex-fiancé Shawn Booth.

“I wrote it in a time when I was in a lot of pain and hurt and that isn’t the case anymore,” Bristowe, 34, told ET Canada on Friday, May 29. “And now given the times, we can all relate to the lyrics.”

The Canada native then detailed her experience recording the vulnerable song, adding, “My dad was actually in the studio with me when I was recording that because I was going through the breakup with Shawn at the time and it was a really, really hard time. It’s kinda about a bunch of things but that was such a hard day to get out of bed and go record a song.”

After releasing the country song on May 14, Bristowe opened up what led her to drop the track. “If I’m being honest, I didn’t think I would ever release this song. I was too afraid, insecure, and kept doing the classic ‘what if,’” she wrote via Instagram. “I don’t know who needs to hear this but f*ck the what if’s. This uncertain time has shed light on how important time is. So while this song has been collecting dust for over a year, I’ve finally decided to share it with you.”

Booth competed as a contestant on Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette, which aired in 2015. During the season 11 finale, she chose Booth over runner-up Nick Viall, and the duo walked away as an engaged pair.

Us Weekly confirmed in November 2018 that Bristowe and Booth had called it quits after three years together. The former pair revealed that the “difficult decision comes after thoughtful, respectful consideration” on their part.

“Even though we are parting as a couple, we’re very much committed to remaining friends,” they said in a joint statement to Us. “We have both evolved as people, which is taking us in different directions, but with the hope that we will continue to support each other in new ways.”

Bristowe confirmed that she was dating Jason Tartick two months after announcing her split from Booth. On May 15, the “Off the Vine” podcast host exclusively told Us that she’s “on such a good path” with Tartick, 31. However, she doesn’t anticipate them getting engaged during the coronavirus quarantine.

“I told him I don’t want to [have a] quarantine engagement,” she explained at the time. “[I want] a little more romance than just at the house.”

Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello Sizzle With ‘Senorita’

Shawn Mendes and girlfriend Camila Cabello heated up the 2019 American Music Awards stage with a sizzling performance of their hit “Señorita” at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater on Sunday, November 24.

Cabello wore a red dress as she wrapped her arm around her boyfriend and they swayed seductively to the music and gazed into each other’s eyes. At one point the camera panned to Taylor Swift, who watched their performance with her eyes wide and mouth open. At the end of the number, Cabello rested her arm on Mendes’ chest and he placed a hand on her waist as they stepped closer to each other, coming this close to kissing (see Swift’s reaction below).

The pair are nominated for Collaboration of the Year for the song, while Mendes, 21, is also nominated for Favorite Social Artist.

It was the second time the couple have sung their duet live at an awards show — they previously performed the track at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards in August and confirmed their fledgling relationship with their sultry chemistry during the number.

Cabello, 22, was also set to perform her new single, “Living Proof,” at the AMAs after dropping the video for the song earlier on Sunday.

Other performers at the awards show include Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Halsey, Billie Eilish, the Jonas Brothers, Lizzo, Shania Twain, Travis Scott and WATT, Green Day and Christina Aguilera. The show is being hosted by Ciara, with presenters including Dan + Shay, Jenna Dewan, Paula Abdul, Tyra Banks, Chadwick Boseman, Constance Wu and Heidi Klum.

Swift, 29, is being honored as Artist of the Decade at the AMAs, with legendary singer-songwriter Carole King presenting her with the award.

The “Bad Blood” singer is set to perform at the show after accusing Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta from her former music label, Big Machine, of blocking her from performing her old songs.

In the wake of Swift’s claim, a source told Us Weekly exclusively that the “Lover” singer “can 100 percent perform all of her catalog, past and present, at the AMAs,” despite what she claimed in a Tumblr post earlier this month. Big Machine also had “no issue with her performance going out on live broadcast because it recognizes it doesn’t have the right to block her,” the insider said, adding that record labels aren’t allowed to “block” which songs artists perform live.

Taylor Swift Surprises Fans With Shawn Mendes ‘Lover’ Remix

Just when you thought Taylor Swift’s “Lover” couldn’t be any better, she added Shawn Mendes to the mix.

The “You Need to Calm Down” singer, 29, surprised fans on Wednesday, November 13, when she released a remix of her latest album’s title track — featuring none other than the “In My Blood” crooner, 21.

“Hey, guys. I wanted to tell you about something that I’m really excited about. There is a new version of ‘Lover’ coming. A remix featuring someone who I’m such a huge fan of, who I’ve known for a really long time, and someone who I’ve always been really dying to collaborate with,” Swift announced in a Twitter video on Wednesday. “Drumroll please… it is featuring Shawn Mendes.”

The 10-time Grammy winner revealed that Mendes “has taken ‘Lover’ and he has rewritten parts of it, which I think is so important because I love him as a writer, and I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover.”

Swift called the Canada native’s rendition “so beautiful,” adding, “I can’t wait for you to hear it. I’m so, so, so excited about this, and I hope you are too, and I hope you like it.”

Mendes, for his part, tweeted the artwork for the remix alongside a link for fans to listen to it. “Thank you @taylorswift13 for letting me join you on such a beautiful song. ‘Lover’ remix is out now,” he wrote.

The duet has a slightly more upbeat arrangement than the original, which Swift released in August ahead of the release of her Lover album. The former Vine star’s new lyrics include: “We could light a bunch of candles and dance around the kitchen, baby / Pictures of when we were young would hang on the wall / We would sit on the stoop / I’ll sing love songs to you when we’re 80 / See, I finally got you now, honey / I won’t let you fall.”

“Lover” is widely believed to be about Swift’s romance with British actor Joe Alwyn. Mendes, meanwhile, has been dating fellow pop star Camila Cabello since July.
