Brooke Burke: Inside My Self-Care Routine

Sure, “goals” is an overly used term but it really is the only word that comes to mind when we think of Brooke Burke

Not only is she a TV host, CEO, author and mother of four children, but Brooke is also committed to helping women feel their best both physically and mentally.

The 48-year-old has been bringing fans along with her on her fitness journey (hello, booty burn!) through Brooke Burke Body, her fitness lifestyle app. And she opened up about her self-care routine for E!’s Wellness Wednesday series, sharing her favorite healthy recipe and indulgence, three things she has to do every day and what is making her happy right now.

Affirmation or Mantra You Tell Yourself:
How you do anything is how you do everything. The effort we put into executing our goals shows up in the results. This is a line I often tell my children when they’re half-assing something. If you’re going to do something, do it with passion and commitment.

Ally Brooke Takes Us Behind the Scenes of Her “Edgy” Music Video “500 Veces”

If you’re like Ally Brooke, work can’t always happen at home.

For the first time since quarantine and at-home orders were put in place, the superstar singer returned to set to film the music video for her new single “500 Veces,” which also features Messiah. However, the decision wasn’t simply made on a whim. “Me and my entire team and my label, we all had a big discussion and said, ‘Hey we want to do this but we want to do it the right way, we want to be safe, we want to be cautious,'” the 27-year-old exclusively tells E! News. “Health is priority. We did a lot of research and everybody was able to come together and do it in a way where we were safe and comfortable.”

As it turns out, filming in the desert only added to that feeling. “It was great because it’s out in the open and of course, we’re together but it’s outside so I felt safe,” she says. “I wanted to…give it a real, rustic, edgy, cool look. I loved the storyline and the aesthetic, it looks really cool and it gave it that edge that I was looking for.”

Ally Brooke Has Been Texting James Van Der Beek After ‘DWTS’ Shocker

Ally Brooke has kept in touch with James Van Der Beek after their emotional time on Dancing With the Stars. During the Monday, November 18 episode, Van Der Beek, 42, was eliminated just moments after revealing that his wife had suffered a miscarriage days before. In turn, Brooke, 26, who was in the bottom two next to the actor, broke down in tears and offered up her spot.

“James was so wonderful. He’s like, ‘Girl, you shine and go enjoy this and go shine.’ So I took that with me, but you know I did work so hard to get here and it’s not been easy and I’m very, very thankful to be in the finale,” she shared with Us Weekly exclusively at the Vanderpump Dog Foundation Gala on Thursday, November 21. “I hoped I would be and the fact that I’m in the finale is unbelievable! It’s bittersweet because I’m going to miss everyone so much but at the same time, I’m taking every minute in now that I know that it’s coming to an end.”

The “Higher” singer also noted that she’s been “texting back and forth” with the Dawson’s Creek alum since his elimination. “He’s just the sweetest. He’s such an encourager and an amazing human being. He’s just a remarkable man.”

After his elimination, the Pose star opened up on Instagram about his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and her extremely difficult week.

“Wrecked. Devastated. In shock. That’s how we’re feeling right now after the soul we thought were going to welcome into our family in April… has taken a short cut to whatever lies beyond this life. We’ve been through this before, but never this late in the pregnancy, and never accompanied by such a scary, horrific threat to @vanderkimberly and her well-being,” he wrote on Monday. “Grateful that she’s now recovering, but we’ve only just begun unpacking the layers of this one. Thank you to all of our friends and co-workers (and dance partners) who have shown up for us so beautifully during this time. As many of you have said, “There are no words…” and it’s true. Which is why in a time like this it’s enough to know that you’re there. Grieving AND counting our blessings today.”

DWTS’ Ally Brooke Has More ‘Purpose’ After James’ Elimination

More focused than ever. Ally Brooke is heading into the finale ready to win Dancing With the Stars — now more than ever. During the Monday, November 18, episode, she broke down in tears after she was saved over James Van Der Beek; he was eliminated just moments after revealing his wife had suffered a miscarriage days before.

However, the actor, 42, put his personal feelings aside to encourage Brooke to shine — and that’s making her push even harder during the finals.

“I am so focused. I have more of a sense of purpose with everything that happened in the past 24 hours. So I’m taking in every moment. I’m grateful,” the singer, 26, shared with Us Weekly exclusively on Tuesday, November 19. “I’m going to definitely push myself and I’m going to soak in the days and the fact that I’m here because it’s not easy to get to the finale and the fact that I made it is really, really incredible.”

She noted that Van Der Beek told her, “No apologies,” which was important for her to hear. “I was very sad and upset and I felt like James deserved to be there and I really wanted to give him my spot but he wanted me to be there. And for him to say, ‘Go shine,’ that meant the world. I’m gonna take that with me going into this week.”

During the finals, the “Higher” singer and partner Sasha Farber will perform a freestyle routine, which she can’t wait for audiences to see.

“I’m very excited. It’s one of my favorite songs and it’s definitely going to be a strong moment, a strong way to exit,” she shared. “My biggest hope is that with the freestyle, people see me and that they love this freestyle and they connect to me and I hope that this is a dance that will get me to win. But if not, at least I’m gonna put my entire soul into this dance.”

The former Fifth Harmony member then opened up about how she feels like a completely different person than when she started the show.

“I’ve been through so much on this show and I’ve grown so much. I’ve really challenged myself and I feel like I found who I am,” Brooke said. “The new Ally, who’s really going to be an entertainer, is going to be so different and I’m so excited for that. I’m grateful for this experience and I’m going to apply everything I’ve learned into the next phase of life and I really do cherish this show. Dancing With the Stars has changed my life.”

DWTS’ Ally Brooke Talks James Van Der Beek’s Elimination

Spreading kindness. Ally Brooke warmed hearts across America when she volunteered to be eliminated from Dancing With the Stars on Monday, November 18, instead of James Van Der Beek, who announced moments earlier that his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, recently suffered a miscarriage. However, the ABC series does not allow a contestant to hand over his or her place in the competition to a fellow competitor.

“I just felt it wasn’t right after everything that James has gone through,” the “Low Key” singer, 26, explained to Us Weekly and other reporters after the semifinals episode. “Being human and seeing that he’s been through one of the worst things in life … I felt like he had the strength to be here today, and that in itself is unbelievable and that took immense strength from him.”

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli all voted to save Brooke and her pro partner, Sasha Farber. After offering to give away her spot in the finale, a visibly emotional Brooke leaned over to chat with the Dawson’s Creek alum, 42, and his partner, Emma Slater.

“He was just like, ‘I can’t accept that’ and ‘It’s very, very kind,’” she revealed after the show. “He said, ‘Just enjoy it.’ Sasha and I talked to him afterwards as well and I tried to offer again and I talked to him on my own, and he was just like, ‘No, please, you just enjoy it and you shine and don’t be afraid to shine.’ [Those] are the exact words he told me, and I’m taking that in. Even though I’m very sad and in a way feel like I shouldn’t be here, I’m trying to celebrate too [for] my personal journey.”

Brooke commended James for offering words of encouragement to her after his surprising exit, telling reporters that his reaction “just shows the type of character he is and the spirit he has.” She went on to call the actor “one of the most magnificent, unbelievable people I’ve ever met in my life.”

For his part, Farber, 35, told Us that being in the bottom two and facing off against his wife, Slater, 30, and James “was absolutely horrible.” He added, “You couldn’t write a worse horror movie than that.”

Slater, meanwhile, said that she told James she “was just really sorry” about their elimination. She became emotional as she spoke with reporters about feeling like she was not able to protect her partner.

“I think he’s not one to get defeated,” she said. “He’s got a very, very good head on his shoulders. He knows what’s important. He’s been through so much in his life and also recently, obviously. I think that put it into perspective. This is a dance show and, yes, I know that he’s upset and disappointed, but at the same time he’s an extremely smart, level-headed man and … he would be good at coping with things and dealing with things. And he’s the first person to offer up advice, so I hope he’s taking his own advice.”

James announced before his second dance on Monday’s episode that Kimberly, 37, had miscarried. The news came one month after the couple told viewers that they were expecting their sixth child.

“The little soul that we had expected to welcome into our family took a shortcut to whatever lies beyond,” he said in a video package. “You never know why these things happen.”

The Van Der Beeks share Olivia, 9, Joshua, 7, Annabel, 5, Emilia, 3, and Gwendolyn, 17 months.

DWTS’ Sasha Farber Will ‘Push the Boundaries’ With Ally Brooke

Where do you go after a two weeks of perfect scores? If it’s up to Sasha Farber, he and partner Ally Brooke will only get better during the Dancing With the Stars semifinals on Monday, November 18.

“The plan for next week is to just keep on fighting, keep on kicking on. With Ally, I feel like I could really push the boundaries and I’m super excited for one specific dance,” the pro, 35, told Us Weekly following the Monday, November 11, episode. “We have a redemption dance, where we do the same style with different choreography. And then, the next dance, which I’m really excited for. So I really want to push the boundaries. I feel like every week we’re pushing and pushing and pushing, but my main thing is to kind of push her vulnerability, her passion and her devotion to everything that she does.”

Last Monday, the former Fifth Harmony member, 26, danced a samba and a jazz routine and the judges were beyond impressed, giving her two perfect scores. The week before, they also received a perfect 30. However, it’s not the numbers that Farber is usually paying attention to.

“Don’t get me wrong, the scores are incredible. To me, it’s more the judges’ comments and the critiques. I think with critiques and compliments, you become a better dancer in our world. So I always try to translate that to Ally and this week was just incredible,” the former Burn the Floor star said.”I mean, at this stage, we weren’t even thinking scores we were just thinking, ‘Let’s get to the next week.’”

Sasha and Ally aren’t the only ones feeling the pressure! Heading into the semifinals, Alan Bersten revealed to Us that he also has big plans for his partner, Hannah Brown.

“There’s going to be a new side of Hannah,” Bersten, 25, said on Monday night. “I’m really excited because we’re going to have more of an emotional dance, so I’m really excited for that. We haven’t really shown that side yet.”

Former ‘DWTS’ Host Brooke Burke Isn’t Watching Season 28

Just because you hosted a show, doesn’t mean you still watch! Brooke Burke, who won season 7 of Dancing With the Stars while dancing with Derek Hough, went on to host the competition series from 2010 to 2013. That said, she’s not keeping up with season 28.

“I’m not watching,” she told Us Weekly at the Operation Smile Hollywood Fight Night on Wednesday, November 7. “I always feel like such a jerk.”

While she didn’t reveal why she’s not watching, the actress, 48, has stayed in touch with her former partner and his sister Julianne Hough. In fact, she and her new boyfriend, Scott Rigsby, recently went on a Cabo vacation Julianne and her husband, Brooks Laich, as well as Derek and his girlfriend, Hayley Erbert.

“It was so great. I’m really proud of Derek. He’s all grown up,” she told Us. “I remember when we were dancing, he was, like, a boy. Now he’s in love. And I’ve been cheering Julianne on for a really long time. So it was a good getaway. … I’ve watched Derek and Julianne literally grow up. I mean from being pros to being Emmy award-winning choreographers to musicians to creators and now they have their own show. I’m so proud of them.”

Neither Derek nor Julianne are currently part of this season of Dancing With the Stars. While the current judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba have raved about the immense talent of the season, there’s also been a bit of controversy.

Sean Spicer, who has received the lowest judges’ scores every week, has yet to land in the bottom two and instead, top dancers are being sent home. During the Monday, November 4, episode, Inaba, 51, admitted she was “irritated” by the results.

“My reaction to Sean being saved, it’s frustrating,” the Talk host told Us exclusively after the show. “There are really great dancers being sent home, but that is part of our show. It’s always been the audience and the judges’ perspective. So I’m not — I can’t be mad at it, but it’s frustrating.”

Ally Brooke Admits ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Results Are ‘Shocking’

On the same page as the audience. Ally Brooke detailed how the Dancing With the Stars cast feels about the eliminations thus far during season 28.

“You just really can’t predict what’s going to happen. I think it definitely is shocking,” the “Higher” singer, 26, told Us Weekly exclusively on Thursday, October 31. “It has been shocking and all you can do is just literally — just if I know that I did the best dance that I could and worked as hard as I could, and that’s all that I can take away from it and then hope that America loves it. I think the more and more I show [them] who I am, I hope that it helps.”

Brooke and her partner, Sasha Farber, found themselves in the bottom two during the October 21 episode despite earning high scores, while Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy were eliminated. The following installment ended in another shocker, with Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson sent home in lieu of Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov.

Meanwhile, fans expressed outrage over Sean Spicer’s repeated safe status with partner Lindsay Arnold as the pair continued to occupy the bottom of the leaderboard.

Brooke hopes her near elimination encouraged her fans to show their support. “Now I am [scared]. Especially because I was in the bottom two a few weeks ago. So I feel like even if I do really well in my dancing, I still feel nervous because it’s not just about the dancing,” she admitted to Us. “I feel like the good thing is, I was in the bottom two a few weeks ago, but this week I was not. So I really feel like that was a jolt for everyone to continue to vote. And I’m so happy that I’m on the show another week.”

The former Fifth Harmony member added that she intends to “leave it in God’s hands.”

In addition to Brooke, Flannery, Spicer, Hannah Brown, James Van Der Beek, Lauren Alaina and Kel Mitchell are still in the running for the mirrorball trophy. Lamar Odom, Ray Lewis and Mary Wilson were previously eliminated.

Ally Brooke Praises Hannah Brown’s Honesty on ‘DWTS’

Stronger together. Ally Brooke completely understands what Hannah Brown is going through on Dancing With the Stars and thinks it’s great that she’s speaking out.

“I admire that she’s so honest and she’s been through a lot,” Brooke, 26, told Us Weekly exclusively in a new interview. “It’s really great that she’s open about how she’s feeling. And honestly, being on this show is not easy. I mean, even for me, I’m more used to being in the public eye because I’ve been in it for a few years, but even for me, it’s a lot. I can’t imagine [how it is for] someone who’s not really as used to it. You go there and you bare your all and you’re judged on something completely different and new and it’s really tough.”

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told the former Bachelorette that her dance was “lacking” on the Monday, October 28, episode, explaining that she seemed “disconnected in the movements.” Brown, 25, became emotional after the comment and posted on Instagram the next day, admitting that she felt defeated and detailing how difficult the competition has been.

“I came into this experience a little broken and confused — more than I’ve shared. Every day has brought its challenges with my past, my fears, and the uncomfortableness of opening myself up again to be judged on something VERY scary like learning a new skill to perform each week,” the Alabama native wrote. “A lot of suppressed emotions started to surface from this amazing, but grueling experience. I want to be me. I want to be real. I feel my best when I feel like I have the opportunity to share my heart with others. But I know that’s been lacking in what has been seen on DWTS. It’s true there is a disconnect. I am busting my ass. I am giving this my all. It’s my focus and passion right now. But each week I fall flat. I’ve gotten to the point of being so anxious before I perform that I can’t completely enjoy it like I wish and know I could.”

The “High” singer shared with Us that she understands the anxiety before performing.

“You want to make sure you do well and you just want to do your best, plus, you hope that the judges will really see your efforts,” Brooke explained. “I remember the first few weeks, I wasn’t getting the most amazing feedback from the judges and that was tough because you want to enjoy it. At the same time, it’s not fun getting not the best comments, but as long as you do your best and continue working on what they say, then it will get better. And you also have to remember who you’re doing this for. You’re doing this for yourself and for other people to enjoy, you know, and I’m doing it for my family. So that’s the best thing to keep in mind.”

The former Fifth Harmony member also added that she was judged in the past for her dancing, which upset her.

“I went viral for the wrong reasons because people circulated a funny dance video of me and it really hurt my confidence. But I chose to not run away from dancing but to take it head-on, be part of the show to show those haters wrong and embark on an incredible journey,” she said. “It has done wonders for me. So I feel like it’s great that she’s doing the same in her own way.”
