The BMG and Epic veteran will also take on an A&R role at WMG’s Atlantic Records.
Music industry veteran Shani Gonzales has joined Warner Chappell Music as the publishing powerhouse’s new head of international and executive vp of U.S., A&R. In her new role, which reports to CEO Guy Moot, Gonzales will work to improve collaboration between WCM’s global A&R teams and foster the crossover of songwriters into uncharted markets.
Gonzales arrives at Warner Chappell from BMG, where she was co-head of A&R for the U.S. since 2016. Prior to that she held executive positions at Epic Records, Def Jam and — for a four-year stint in the early 2000s — Warner Chappell. During the course of her career she has signed and/or developed a murders’ row of hit songwriter and producers, including Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, Travis Scott, Labrinth, Saint JHN and Poo Bear, among others.
“As music increasingly crosses international borders, the appointment of Shani to this newly minted role will further our long-term strategy of expanding global opportunities for our songwriters,” said Moot. “Shani has signed and developed some of the most important and successful songwriters of our generation, and her extraordinary ability to connect creatives around the world will make her an invaluable asset as we continue to strengthen our global team.”
Gonzales will also work closely with Ryan Press, WCM president, A&R, U.S., and his team to sign new songwriters. In addition, she will take on an A&R role at Atlantic Records in an effort to facilitate joint efforts between the two Warner Music Group companies.
“Shani’s one of the most talented and well-respected A&R people in the business,” said Press. “She’s fiercely devoted to seeing her songwriters’ careers thrive, and I’m looking forward to working closely with her to create unique and impactful opportunities for our U.S. roster abroad.”
Added Gonzales: “With Guy and [COO] Carianne [Marshall] leading the charge, the vibe is fantastic, and it feels great to be working with such amazing people who share my passion for songwriters and the art of the song. I’m looking forward to collaborating with the WCM family across the globe, as well as with Ryan and his crew in the U.S. I’m also very happy to be joining the Atlantic A&R squad, and to have the opportunity to work with Craig Kallman, Julie Greenwald, and their brilliant team.”
