MONTH OF October
Tell your friends to bring their friends…and theirs! October gets off to a wildly social start, which is just the way your expansive Sagittarius spirit likes it. Not only is the Sun soaring through Libra and your eleventh house of friends, groups and technology until October 23, but this year brings a biennial visit from energizer Mars. The revved-up red planet will zoom through Libra from October 4 to November 19, heating up your networks and sparking synergies wherever you go.
Mars can add excitement and stress in equal doses, and you may go into “people overload” at moments, having almost too much of a good thing. Teamwork does indeed make the dream work this month, but you need to have some literal dreams (as in, a good night’s sleep!) to keep your energy levels up. There could be a zillion events, conference calls, video chats and parties to RSVP to, so choose selectively. And be sure to log off those social media sites whenever possible, even if your posts keep going viral!
Mars is in “detriment”—a weakened position—in Libra. After all, the planet of war isn’t totally comfortable in the sign of peace. It’s all too easy to overestimate what you can handle (a Sagittarius issue by nature). Better to underpromise and overdeliver than the reverse. Manage people’s expectations and be sure to delegate! With Mars in this team-centric zone, you could have a power posse of capable collaborators ready to pitch in. Do your part by giving them clear instructions…then letting go and trusting.
Any controlling or micromanaging tendencies start to clear up on October 3, when calculating Pluto wakes up from a five-month retrograde in Capricorn and your second house of work and money. Whew! Since April 24, the karmic planet has been reversing through this zone, driving up old fears and limiting beliefs that may have impacted your bottom line. From power struggles with coworkers to stressful money fluctuations, conditions haven’t always been favorable for you, Sag. Your confidence may have taken a few hits during this cycle. Now, as Pluto returns to forward motion, you can regain a sense of power and get back into the financial driver’s seat. If you’ve been unsure about whether to work with someone or take on a project, Pluto’s course correction can help you make a clear decision.
First, you may need to do a no-BS analysis of the players on Team Sagittarius. Certain friends or colleagues may be more of a hindrance than a help, and this situation will need to be corrected. On October 7, the Libra Sun will lock into a tense square with rigid Saturn in Capricorn and your money zone. Has your budget gotten bloated with service providers who aren’t pulling their weight? Are you frittering away your hard-earned cash on projects or activities that aren’t returning the investment? Mars and Saturn will make this same sobering clash on October 27, which may force you to cut ties or institute some radical “policy changes” with the people around you.
But don’t go on a blaming spree here, Archer. Remember that you’ve played a part in creating those imbalanced dynamics. Underneath that could lie some deep-seated confidence issues, perhaps driven by shame learned in childhood—and that’s not something that you can change overnight. Becoming aware of that is the first step! Step back from any incendiary relationships and take a bird’s-eye view—as if you were an alien observing two human beings interacting. You CAN break free of these patterns, but you’ll have to stay calm and clear-eyed to do so.
That could prove challenging on October 13, when the year’s only Aries full moon lands in your fifth house of passion, love and self-expression. While this can be a beautiful day for romance (more on that in a minute), strong emotions could boil up, and your reactions might be strong. With Pluto squaring this full moon, some intense feelings could be voiced, perhaps related to deep-seated issues of security and trust. While it’s always important to have honest, open dialogue, this lunation can cause you to speak first and think later (another infamous Sagittarius tendency), and you run the risk of projecting your insecurities onto someone. A desire for excitement and spontaneity could be at odds with a need for stability—one you may have to hash out with your S.O. or love interest now or “soon.”
On the positive side of the equation, the Aries full moon can turn a simmering attraction into a full-on consummation. You’ve got the confidence to wear your heart on your sleeve today, and if everyone is willing to hear each other out calmly, this could mark a beautiful turning point that deepens your affections. For Sags of the childbearing set, the full moon in your fertile fifth house could bring pregnancy news. And every Archer could be ripe with creativity as la luna lights your colorful and artistic zone. A visit from the muse (if not the stork) can spark some divine downloads! If you’ve been busy working your tail off, as so many Sags have been, earmark this day for hedonistic fun: dancing, feasting or whatever “excess” you happen to desire. Hey, as long as nobody gets hurt…why not?
Power down starting October 23 when the Sun shifts into Scorpio and your twelfth house of rest and endings. You’ve had quite an active year with expansive Jupiter in your sign (where it will remain until December 2). There’s been SO much newness, and exciting as that novelty has been, it’s also required a lot of adapting. Growth isn’t all fun and games—as you’ve come to learn! If you’ve stretched so far out of your comfort zone that you feel like a contortionist, retract and retreat. For the next four weeks, the Sun’s low-lit position invites you to slip off the grid as much as possible for self-care and restorative activities. Although your social life will remain abuzz thanks to Mars in Libra, pace yourself. Shield your field if you step out into a crowd since you’re susceptible to absorbing everyone’s energy. Carry a grounding black stone, bring a wingperson and have a ready excuse if you need to depart early and get some shuteye!
Is there a part of your life to release so you can welcome a new chapter? Endings are beginnings, a theme/paradox you can explore at the October 27 Scorpio new moon. Maybe you need to surrender and allow the universe to take command. If you’ve been forcing an agenda or swimming upstream, the Scorpio new moon will present new pathways that involve a lot less struggle. Find a space of quiet within yourself. Journal, meditate, get an intuitive reading—and see what guidance comes.
A challenging person, perhaps someone you’ve been in a lot of conflict with recently, may lay down their sword at last. Or you could see the (unsavory) true colors of a person you thought was an ally. Rather than cut them off abruptly, look at where YOU may have fueled this dynamic by being indirect or blurring boundaries. If people don’t know where you stand or what you expect, it’s hard for them to deliver the results you want. After all, they’re not mind readers! That said, don’t let anyone “gaslight” you here. If you’ve been clear about your limits and someone keeps violating them, this new moon reinforces your right to say “that’s not okay!”
Note to Sag: Your inner control freak COULD rear its head today because the new moon will lock into a tense opposition with disruptive and unpredictable Uranus in Taurus. Watch your stress levels and keep your wits about you. Under this opposition, you can be accident-prone and distracted by your swirling thoughts. Anxiety can make you accident-prone or cause a careless error on an important project. Breathe. Ground yourself. Get support…and cry if you need a release! Just do what it takes to get out of your head. The side-spinning planet in your micromanaging sixth house could send your “monkey mind” into overdrive. Yikes!
You’ll need to keep on managing those thoughts and emotions because from October 31 to November 20, Mercury will be retrograde in Scorpio and this same zone of your chart. With the analytical planet reversing through your subconscious sector, it can be a fruitful time to sort through mental baggage and shed limiting beliefs, perhaps with the help of a therapist or coach. Dare to go there—and free yourself of those emotional demons. But know that in the process, old fears and trust issues can surface. You may find yourself having a “healing crisis”—in other words, a storm surge of old feelings and repressed gunk that comes up when we finally decide to confront buried issues. Be extremely gentle with yourself now, Sagittarius. You’re moving through some important emotions, and if you feel off-center, this is part of regaining your balance. Just be sure you have enough support around you. You don’t have to do it alone!
LOVE & ROMANCE:
With the cosmic lovebirds, Venus and Mars, huddled together in Libra and your social eleventh house the first week of the month, you’ll be in lively spirits. These two planets only align every other year, so make the most of this “more’s the merrier” energy by hanging out with mutual friends and easing up on any lingering, heavy relationship issues. (C’mon, it’s just one week!) With the amorous planets in this sector, independence is sexier than ever, as is having a shared purpose. Volunteer as a team to rekindle your shared values. Singles could meet a hot humanitarian while planning that holiday benefit party or organizing soup-kitchen shifts. This realm also rules technology, so a well-timed right swipe might be a game-changer. But pour a little heart—and genuine optimism—into the search!
Mars is here all month (until November 19), which can make you almost relentlessly chipper. While your enthusiastic sign doesn’t understand why some people would find that a bit much, consider that they might be depressed, in a negative state of mind—or simply envious. The best “revenge”? Kill ‘em with kindness. The more loving and open-hearted you (sincerely) are, the more likely they’ll be to come around to your upbeat ‘tude.
On October 8, Venus leaves Mars at the party when she moves into intensifying Scorpio and your internally focused twelfth house. Give yourself ample downtime to recover from all the socializing and volunteer work. When you’re secure in your private bubble, go ahead and indulge some sweet fantasies, alone or with bae. Unattached? Stay on guard for a steamy attraction to someone who’s a bit mysterious and hard to figure out. Sexy and alluring, no doubt. But honestly, Archer, do you really need more drama or complications in your life?
October 12: Venus-Uranus opposition
You may not be able to manage an out-of-control emotional issue that erupts during today’s dramatic dust-up. While it might be hard to sit tight and simply allow things to unfold organically, it’s the best way to not fan the flames.
MONEY & CAREER:
Work your network! There’s power in numbers this month as the Sun sends its rays through Libra and your eleventh house of teamwork and tech. With go-getter Mars also here from October 4 to November 19, casting a wide and collaborative net could scoop up lots of exciting catches! Most Archers aren’t exactly camera-shy, but you DO want to have a few meaningful talking points before you press “record.” With the gutsy Sun and Mars teamed up in this viral sector, a podcast or video could get your message out to your audience. If you’re job-hunting, tap your inner circle (and theirs) for helpful leads. Fortune favors the bold now.
But make time for unstructured dreaming and a little mental rest this month, too. Cerebral Mercury, the planet of communication, will camp out in Scorpio and your flowy twelfth house from October 3 to December 9, a sharp contrast to the rah-rah Libra energy. You might find yourself a bit foggy or sleepy. Get ample rest after you power through an industry conference or high-energy cocktail meetup. If you work in an artistic or creative field, this cycle is a boon, and all the more so once the Sun enters Scorpio for a month on October 23, followed by the Scorpio new moon on October 27. Put your most original and avant-garde ideas out there!
Fly under the radar starting October 31, when Mercury turns retrograde until November 20, a cycle that’s notorious for wreaking havoc on technology, travel, information and communication. Back up all your most important data and strengthen passwords (the twelfth house rules hidden agendas, and you don’t need anyone stealing your private info). Ward off brain fogginess the old-fashioned way: by drinking plenty of water and getting a good night’s sleep. Take a good, hard look at any past missteps in your career. Be honest about the ways you may have sabotaged your work and career. Sit quietly with a pen and a pad and do some soul-searching, then think through what you can do to move forward. Facing your demons is the best way not to repeat the same limiting behavior.
October 7: Mercury-Uranus opposition
With expressive Mercury in your subconscious zone facing off with unpredictable Uranus, a completely innocent comment could be misconstrued and cause a lot of damage. Err on the side of caution, even if that means not getting the last laugh. Keeping the peace is SO worth it!
