Ron Weasley isn’t trying to start anything, but he could totally see Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy dating…or at least their real-life actor counterparts, Emma Watson and Tom Felton. Rupert Grint, who played Ron in the films, was asked by Entertainment Tonight about the Watson-Felton romance rumors that have surfaced on social media after Felton posted a photo of himself with Watson and a second shot she took of him in August.
Both Watson and Felton are single, and Grint said that he wouldn’t be surprised if something did happen between them because of their Harry Potter days. (Nothing is happening right now though.)
“Yeah, I could [see them together]. There was always something,” Grint said while promoting his AppleTV+ series The Servant. “There was a little bit of a spark. I don’t want to start anything. No, not really [no one dated on set],” he confirmed.
But there was still chemistry between Watson and Felton. “There were some sparks, but we were kids,” Grint said. “It was like any kind of playground romance, yeah. I didn’t have any sparks. I was spark-free.”
In reality, both Watson and Felton have talked about their single status recently. Watson was seen kissing a man in October but told Vogue UK in a new interview this month that she’s not dating anyone currently. “I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she started. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”
Felton was asked about Watson’s self-partnered phrase by Daily Mail this week. “I like it!” he said. “It’s the first I’ve heard of it, but it’s great. I’m in the same category to be honest with you, quite happily self-partnered.”
